ARITIST STATEMENT

I make things and paint abstractly with acrylics.

I play with color and technique to lay down layers of paint, responding and adjusting intuitively as I go until the feeling comes through.

I trust that a sea of creativity exists in being present and that the more I stay in the moment without expectation, creative energy will come.  There are moments that feel effortless and others of exhilarating fear.

I am making art to discover more about myself and then to share.

I am inspired by nature, the creativity of other artists and moments that take my breath away.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Diane has always loved to make art. From the time she was a little girl, her favorite pastime was art. She began to paint with oils at age 12 inspired by her aunt who was a painter. She just played.

She painted, designed and sewed clothing, danced, played music and was an art major in college. Life took a turn however, and she put down the paint brush and turned her creative spirit in a different direction. Over the course of 36 years became an award-winning home and landscape designer, licensed general contractor, and project manager in Nevada County, Sacramento County , Sierra County and surrounding area for both residential and commercial projects. She retired from her work in the construction industry at the end of 2024 and her love of art making came roaring back.

She lives in Trinidad, Ca and is inspired to paint again by the spectacular ever-changing northern California coastline and redwood forests. She feels blessed to live so close to nature among such a creative and caring community in Humboldt County.

Once again, she plays.
